Subject: Indyfest 2008 given a Financial Boost

Indyfest 2008 will receive a financial boost through the ACT Government Arts funding program.

Arts ACT has provided $15 000 in support of Indyfest's 18th birthday show on 8 March 2008.

The support is greatly appreciated by the committed crew of core volunteers passionate about the live music scene in Canberra.

"It will enable us to run an awesome event and really set a gateway to the live music arts scene for the youth of Canberra" (Bruce Director)

"There's only one true independent ACT music industry and youth culture showcase in Canberra, and that is Indyfest" (Jol, Caught in the ACT)

Indyfest showcases the best of the live musicians and will carry on the tradition and strong identity in the community of 18 years. The 2008 festival will be a launching pad to a new institution for Indyfest to provide a gateway for the youth community and interstate talent to further the hard work of local musicians and the Canberra music industry.

"We hope to draw in the local NSW and VIC state industries to Canberra, in doing so proving a good launch pad for bands to a national level" (Bruce)

The youth market will also be beneficiaries as 2008 will continue the all ages tradition. Indyfest will continue to encourage positive growth for young Canberrans to follow there music dreams.

"The grant will enable us to do this"

Indyfest is scheduled to kick off on Saturday 8 March 2008 and be rocking well into Sunday morning.

For 18 years the music industry in Canberra has been competing with the popularity of nightclubs, and digital gaming and other technologies. There was always a gap between the older live music goers and youth music community.

Indyfest aims to bring these the older and youth together as one community of those passionate about live music.

"The Canberra music scene has really been pumping over the last few years and we want to encourage everyone to get involved" (Bruce)

"Music festivals these days are about profits and t-shirt sales, Indyfest is about the music" (Jol, Caught in the ACT)

Indyfest is in the final stages of finalising the bands for the bill through an extensive selection process, usually involving beer and some key industry representatives. There has always been talk of 'headline' act for the bill (being a high profile national Australian band) – although no information has been provided, there is a small buzz about if there is, who this will be…
